Q. 1 STAGES

Initially I was in denial that the virus would ever reach Ireland and that being an island would ensure that it never affected us. I felt and still feel shocked that this is happening and what our new “normal” is.

Q. 2 EVERYDAY ROUTINE

I’m in a fortunate position of still being employed, however in much less demand as pre lockdown. As a teacher, I’m working remotely, but to a minimal degree. I really miss my class, routine and a sense of purpose. I like to be busy and need to be motivated. My daily routine consists of walks, baking, cleaning and reading and each day I give myself a list of ˜jobs”!

Q. 3 GROUPS

My mother is “cocooning” and is just getting on with it. She has adapted well and does laps of the garden to get her step count in. She chats to friends on the phone more and watches Netflix in the afternoons.

Q. 4 WAYS WE TALK

I’ve been doing ‘bun runs’. As baking is part of my daily routine now and my family are well stocked with treats, I drop baked goods to neighbours and friends. Can’t touch any doorbells though! The virus has made me think a lot more about touching items in shops etc. Going to the shop is like a military exercise! It is the place that poses the biggest risks at the moment.
Myself and friends are trying to predict ‘when it will be all over’. We measured this by when we can go to the pub again. Who knows?!"

Q. 5 COMMUNITY RESPONSE

I’ve seen more neighbours than I have in my lifetime. When out for a walk, people now acknowledge each other with a smile or hello. Hopefully it has made us all a bit nicer?! As a lover of sending and receiving post, the An Post campaign to send two postcards in Ireland for free was a big hit!

Q. 6 THOUGHTS AND PREOCCUPATIONS

What’s for dinner?

Q. 7 SIMILARITY TO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

No Response.

Q. 8 CHALLENGES AND COPING

No Response.

Q. 9 THE FUTURE

I think that travelling abroad will be impacted. Face masks etc.

Q. 10 IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE THAT SPRINGS TO MIND?

Great survey, made me reflect on this strange time!!!
