Description
Excerpt from an oral history interview
Transcript
"TJ And the stories of going down to Youghal of course, where you know, I mean there was one person paid and twenty-three children went in with the person.
CFP: Went in where?
TJ: On the Sunday excursion to Youghal, it would be the adults who would buy a ticket and all the kids would just, you know, supposedly are with that person. I guess it was the same thing when you’re maybe what, the age of 13, 11, 12 or 13, going to a soccer game in Turners Cross. You would stand outside there and older people would be passing by, who were probably 16, 17 or 18. But you see you could get in free with a man, therefore you know, every adult, paying adult, was allowed to bring a child in for free of charge.
CFP: So you’d be standing there waiting for them?
TJ: Correct. Actually, you be asking them. Asking them “excuse me sir, do you mind if I go in with you?” And they would actually, you know, pass you through the turnstile, so you know?"
