J.M: Very good ok. So we’ll move nearer the present. Could you tell me how you happened to arrive in Cork?

S.W: This is kind of a long story (Laughs). Em before I came over to Cork I was actually working in Orkney, which is an island off the North of Scotland, like way way off the North of Scotland. Em and I was still seeing my friends from Yorkshire. Now one of my friends he works in the IT industry, and he got free flights over to Cork one weekend to do a job, so I came over with him, em and when we were over (this must have been not too long ago, three, four years ago now) we decided to do the Midleton Distillery Tour so we went up to Midleton, and did the tour, sampled the whiskey, and we thought this is quite a nice, small town, so we stayed around and we went into a place called McDaid’s for a drink, and one drink led to another and we were having a great time in there and I was chatting to some of the local, local ladies, one of whom is now my wife (she took my eye, I took her eye) so I went back over to Scotland, to Orkney, and we were corresponding and maybe two or three times a year we would meet up em Edinburgh, London, wherever was kind of halfway between us. One thing led to another, it got kind of serious, and it got kind of expensive as well seeing each other, so we were discussing would Aine come over to Orkney, and would I go to Cork, and Orkney is such a small place – there’d be more opportunities in Cork – so I ended up coming over in January 2003 em we became engaged and we were actually married in August 2003. So that’s how I’m here, I think I’m getting my dates a bit confused!

J.M: Yeah, yeah I’m sure that’s no problem!

S.W: It was January 2002 which I came over, and we got married August 2003, so that’s why I’m here!
