School Workshops at Cork Folklore Outreach Hub

Last week, Mark and Janusz, two of our researchers based at the Cork Folklore Outreach Hub, facilitated an interactive workshop with 5th and 6th classes from St. Vincent’s Primary School. The workshop entitled ‘The Games We Used to Play’ brought folklore to life by recreating old playground games played around Cork in the last century. The school children attending had a great time playing games like ‘Pickey’, ‘Gobs’, ‘Feck’ and ‘Glassey Alleys’. These games are warmly remembered by many of our interviewees whose memories and stories from the 50’s and 60’s we have recorded for our archive. The Outreach Hub is a hive of activity this week with more schools visiting for workshops today and tomorrow. Here are some photos from the workshop, can you recognise which game they are playing?
